Learn Close Up Magic

An advice you would generally come across very frequently when trying to learn magic is to learn close up magic. The trick to be successful while doing magic is to forget that you are doing magic i.e. don't be conscious about the fact that you are doing sleight of the hand. Let the sleight of the hand be in your sub conscious level only. Say you are hiding a coin in your palm, don't think about it as it would affect your sleight of hand and make you fumble or be caught.

I know it sounds a little weird, after all how can you convince yourself to "Forget" something you are doing willingly. It's a very tricky idea indeed. However, no matter how strange it sounds, it is possible to do so. You have to consciously work on remembering the final trick and not the smaller secrets. Try to stay focused on your ultimate magic and your audience too would stay with you. If you focus on your smaller secrets your audience would also catch it. With practice you can convince your mind to remember only what it should during the trick.

The basic idea while doing close up magic is not to forget the tip but to not remember the tip. After all if you forget the tip what magic would you perform. The main focus should stay on the larger picture and automatically your mind would not stray to the small tips. Divert your mind and think about some vital point like about the magic show, your audience, your presentation etc and automatically your mind would be so engrossed that it would not have time for remembering the smaller tricks. It is basically a way of deceiving yourself.

Like all magic tricks, this too shall not come easily to you. In the beginning you may feel disheartened when not being able to divert your mind, but gradually with practice you would be able to guide your mind accordingly. Slowly all these tiny tricks will get submerged in your subconscious mind and not come to the forefront.

Remember one thing; before you convince your audience about your magic, you have to convince yourself that your magic is really happening. For this purpose you need the help of the "silent script". The silent script is a type of acting tool that you have to gain expertise on. It would help you be completely convinced in your magic tricks and mesmerize your audience completely.

In the beginning close up magic seems very bizarre. But with practice you shall be able to prevent your mind from thinking about the sleight of hand and focus on the final act. If your mind slips, the audience would not be captivated anymore as your secret would be out.

For successfully learning close up magic you should use your silent script during practice too and not just during your final act. It would help you carry out your magic trick with complete conviction and make you an excellent magician.
