Learn Street Magic
Have you ever thought to yourself "I need to learn street magic and am going to start right away"? You
are all charged and ready to go for it. You reach at your destination and suddenly simply "chicken out". You might find yourself feeling
jumpy and fidgety. Other than learning street magic, you end up doung something else. You may just say hello to your friends and go home not
being able to learn street magic.
It's actually because of our conditioning from the time we are born. You were told to stay away from strangers while growing up. With street
magic, you end up breaking this principle in many ways. First of all, you have to talk to a stranger on the street to take a look at your magic
trick and then ask him/her to trust you. These activities are both against your conditioning. That is why you end up giving up trying to learn
street magic.
So how do you successfully learn street magic? Handle the approach first and your conditioning so you can tackle this. Asses your potential
customer first. Go to the decided venue and have a look around for the potential customers. You have to discern their activities and moods well.
Figure out their schedule for the evening and if they could be a suitable customer or not. You can make a list of your customers by analyzing
them.
Some people like to show their deck of cards at a later stage when the customer has agreed to watch the magic whereas, some like to have their
cards ready when they approach someone. I usually start our conversation by asking them if they've ever heard about the Three Card Monte while
keeping my deck at hand?" In the meanwhile I continue to give a card to the stranger too. The main idea is to prevent your brain from thinking
that "I am approaching a stranger" and minimizing the chance of the customer saying no.
When you ask people for permission you are giving the choice of watching the street magic in their hands and may be refused out rightly on
your face. I discovered that it is a lot better to start the trick immediately while you are talking to them than wait for them to say yes. It is
almost the same as guerilla marketing. You go and talk to the customer in a way that they won't be able to refuse out of courtesy.
I personally don't like to "ask" as I feel like I am begging or am not confident enough about my skill. Also don't try be formal while
approaching people by calling them Madam or Sir. Street magic is very laid-back. It would also help if you will not go overboard and be too
animated or you might irritate the people watching. Just greet other informally with a "Hello" and go ahead. Too much familiarity with a stranger
can put the other person on his guard. Always make sure you maintain eye contact. It would distract their attention and show your
seriousness.
You can start to learn street magic with simpler tricks and gradually move on to more difficult ones. Furthermore, this could also develop
your personality very well. Furthermore, through this, you can also learn to read people, carry yourself with confidence, and deal with different
circumstances properly. You can be successful in street magic by using your experiences and your learnings.
