Where Can I Learn Magic?

If you have finalized you would like to learn magic make a career in, the next question that may come to your mind is "Where can I learn magic?" No magician would agree to share his secrets with you, so how can you learn magic? It is actually not so difficult to learn magic.

Magicians have a code of secrecy and generally do not reveal their secrets. There are various ways of learning basic magic. There are many resources which can be accessed free of cost, but some may be chargeable. As an amateur magician I would suggest you to initially try only the resources that come free of cost. Without sufficient knowledge you may end up spending on materials which are of no use to you.

The best place to start with is the Public Library. You would find a number of books that deal with teaching magic to beginners. That's how I started learning magic. You would find books on magic in the hobbies and card games section.

Read the précis and table of contents of the books. See if it is suitable for you. It should not be too difficult. Pick up easy magic tricks to start with so that you start enjoying yourself and become more confident gradually.

Internet can also be very handy for searching magic tricks. Search with key word "learn magic tricks" and get various websites with relevant information. Master Mentalism is one website I would strongly recommend. They have regular updates and have illustrations with photos to make understanding each and every step very easy. However, these tips are not for a beginner. First get the basics of magic clear and then master them with the help of this website.

Don't spend exorbitantly on props. Take things you find around the house like coins, notes, paper etc to try your tricks. For younger kids there are many magic kits available in the market. They have lots of tricks in one kit. These kits are simple and easy. Parents can buy them as a gift if they notice their kid's inclination towards magic.

Alternatively, you may also try to find some local magic clubs in the directory. They may have some nominal enrollment fee, but you would get to learn with real time experiences and practicing magicians. This knowledge can be extremely useful for a budding magician.

After you think you have mastered the art of magic to some extent, with the help of an experienced magician buy a few props for your first show. Don't try to go buying for props all by yourself. The range of props is very vast that it may overwhelm you and you may make the wrong choice.

Every budding magician has one common question "where can I learn magic"? My advice is to buy a good book or DVD with lots of magic tricks and practice diligently. Don't unnecessarily spend on props or expensive tricks. Start at the basics and proceed accordingly. Last but not the least, don't forget the motto of every magician "Never share your secrets".
